Stratasys EEPROM Chip Recycling: $5 Credit | Argyle Materials

Every Stratasys material canister, spool, cassette, or dongle contains a small embedded EEPROM chip. This chip allows the printer to identify the material type, track the remaining material volume, and confirm compatibility before a build begins. Once a spool or canister is empty, however, the chip is easy to overlook and can end up being discarded with the rest of the packaging.

Argyle Materials will provide a $5 credit per EEPROM chip from any Stratasys spool, cassette, canister, or dongle. Save your chips in bags marked by material type and color, then mail them to:

To remove the chips, pry them off F Series spools, cut the dongle from F120–F770 feed tubes, or unscrew the chips from Dimension or Fortus cassettes and canisters.

Sorting chips by material type and color as you collect them makes it easier to process each batch and receive your credit. With no RMA process to complete, you can simply collect the chips and mail them in whenever it is convenient.

Stratasys Recycling Is Now Limited to Fortus Canisters

Argyle Materials was the first filament provider to offer a recycling program, which helped demonstrate the value of recovering used Stratasys material components. Stratasys now accepts only empty Fortus metal canisters through its recycling program.

We recommend removing the EEPROM chip before recycling the canister. Send the recovered chip to Argyle Materials for credit, while continuing to return the empty metal Fortus canister to Stratasys for recycling.

This split makes practical sense. The metal canister is bulky and well suited to standard metal recycling streams, while the small EEPROM chip requires a dedicated recovery process to prevent it from being discarded with general waste.

By harvesting the EEPROM chip before returning the empty canister, you can get value from both parts of the packaging instead of only one.

Recycling EEPROM Chips from F Series Printers

If you operate an F Series machine, you can also help keep electronic waste out of landfills by recovering the EEPROM chip or dongle—the silicone chip holder—and sending it to Argyle Materials for credit.

F Series printers use a slightly different chip-and-dongle configuration than Fortus machines, but the same basic principle applies: don't throw the electronic component away with the empty spool.

To recycle the component, cut the dongle free from the feed tube and place it in a bag with your other collected EEPROM chips. Continue sorting the chips by material type and color, then mail the batch to Argyle Materials for credit.

Making EEPROM recovery part of your regular material-changeover routine can keep a steady stream of electronic waste out of the landfill while turning used components into ongoing material credit.

Get Credit for Your Used Stratasys EEPROM Chips
